Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a simple, effective, and safe way that uses sound waves to “see” inside the body. Healthcare professionals use ultrasound to study parts of the body, such as the heart, check the health of an unborn baby, and diagnose many medical conditions, such as cancer, gallbladder disease, and blood clots.

Sonographers or Vascular Technologists will perform the exam. These healthcare professionals have special training to:

  • Understand the principles behind the technology and equipment.
  • Help determine proper positioning for the exam.
  • Recognize symptoms and understand disease processes.

Physicians, such as Radiologists who are trained in ultrasound will interpret the images from the exam.

Your ultrasound technologists or your physician will discuss with you prior to the exam the preparation necessary for the specific test ordered.
